Pos Malaysia to issue 'International Definitive Stamp Series' this Saturday

KUALA LUMPUR: Pos Malaysia Berhad (Pos Malaysia) will be issuing its 'International Definitive Stamp Series' to collectors this Saturday.

The inaugural issuance of the stamp series is in line with the use of the stamps for international mail delivery.

Pos Malaysia Group Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Mohd Shukrie Mohd Salleh said the issuance of the stamp series is also to differentiate between the domestic and international postal process.

“Beginning Oct 1, all stamps that will be used for domestic postal process will be charged with the Goods and Services Tax (GST). However stamps for international postage will not be subject to GST.

“The issuance of the International Definitive Series aims to facilitate customers as well as to avoid confusion when using our service,” he said adding that the stamp series would be part of avid collector’s collections.

Shukrie said the issuance of the stamp series was also in conjunction with Stamp Week 2016 beginning Oct 1 till 7 at the Pos Malaysia headquarters here.

Among the activities lined up for the week include a stamp exhibition, stamp sale by Pos Malaysia and stamp dealers, stamp talk by the Philatelic Society of Malaysia as well as a treasure hunt.

Stamp and Philately Unit head, Diyana Lean Abdullah said the issuance also depicts Malaysia as a melting pot rich in cultural diversity, lush greeneries and produce, artistic creativity and racial harmony.

“Eight stamps will be featured in the series including Festivals (10 sen), Local Fruits (20 sen), Unity (RM1), Places of Worship (RM2), Our Nation (RM5) and Handicrafts (RM20).

“Other philatelic products such as the First Day Covers (FDC), inclusive of a brochure, will be sold at 55 sen each while the folders are being sold at RM6.35 each,” she said.
