Bukit Merah waterpark ordered closed, 9 rotavirus cases reported [VIDEO]

PUTRAJAYA: The Perak State Health Department has ordered the temporary closure of Taman Bukit Merah Lake Town after nine cases of rotavirus infection traced to the recreational park were reported.

Health Minister Datuk Seri S Subramaniam said the closure is to allow investigations to be carried out on the water quality of the recreational park.

"We have ordered for temporary closure, as it will allow us to check and monitor the situation continuously," he told a press conference here earlier.

He added that nine cases were reported as of today; seven in Kedah and two in Penang.

Yesterday, the Kedah Health Department confirmed that seven children were admitted to hospital with rotavirus, all after taking a dip at Taman Bukit Merah Lake Town’s pool on Saturday.

Its director, Datuk Dr Norhizan Ismail, said four of the cases involved toddlers, aged between 11 months to one year and eight months, and they were admitted to the Kulim Hospital after vomiting and experiencing diarrhoea on Tuesday and yesterday.

Three other cases were members of the same family – children aged three to 10, who were admitted to a private hospital in Sungai Petani on Monday.
