Police deny kidnap claims involving Sarawak assemblyman's wife

KUCHING: Police today denied rumours which claimed that the wife of a Sarawak state assemblyman had been kidnapped.

The rumours surfaced when the housewife, in her early 40s, failed to board her flight at the Kuching International Airport today.

She was supposed to have returned to her home, located in the central division in the state.

Sources said her family panicked when they were unable to reach her mobile phone despite repeated attempts.

Later during the day, another rumour began circulating, claiming that the wife of the assemblyman was in Simunjan.

"She was not kidnapped but instead was headed to Simunjan," said another source.

Sources declined to elaborate when asked on why she went incommunicado.

"Maybe there was slight disagreement but there is nothing to panic about," said the source.

Meanwhile, Sarawak Criminal Investigation Department chief Datuk Dev Kumar also denied claims that the woman had been kidnapped.
