KUALA LUMPUR: Security measures will be enhanced at this year's Umno General Assembly, including limiting access to live telecasts, said Umno executive secretary Datuk Ab Rauf Yusoh.
“Information obtained from live telecasts including speeches by the delegates that are not meant for the public, had previously been used by certain quarters to attack the party.
“We may not provide live telecasts at Level 2 (of the Putra World Trade Centre where assembly will take place) but at a specified hall where only media practitioners covering the assembly would have access," he told at a press conference after chairing a media coordination meeting today.
He said a total of 3,247 Umno delegates and 282 political observers from 80 countries are expected to attend the Umno General Assembly, set to be held between Nov 29 and Dec 3.
A total of 700 mass communication undergraduates from UiTM will be roped in as liaison personnel.
