Missing at sea: Hope fading as search for army corporals enter third day

ALOR STAR: The search for two army corporals missing at sea off Pulau Perak has entered its third day, with no trace yet of the soldiers.

The army, in a statement this morning, said a round-the-clock search and rescue operation for the two men had been mounted since the duo went missing at 4.40pm on Monday.

Corporal Johbartlee Kanil, 32, and Corporal Mohd Faizol Rosli, 29, were believed to have fallen into the sea while collecting water from a cliff on the rocky island, 66 nautical miles southwest of Langkawi.

Both are attached to the 4th Royal Ranger Regiment based in Oran, Perlis and were on a month-long operation on the island.

Family members of the two victims have been notified of the incident. It is learnt that one of the victims is from Sabah, while the other is from Baling here.

The search and rescue mission is being carried out around the island using three Navy vessels and a helicopter.

However no traces or clues that could lead to the the two men's whereabouts have been found so far.

The search and rescue operation also has yet to involve the scuba unit and the Navy special operations force (Paskal).
