Family of school teacher missing in Sedim still hopeful as search enters 4th day

KULIM: The family members of Mohd Hafiz Jasmi, a 38-year-old school teacher missing in Sedim Recreational Park since Friday, are still clinging onto hope for a miracle reunion.

Hafiz's mother, Zaiton Othman, 64, said the family is now relying on God's mercy to help bring Hafiz back to safety.

"I've been praying often and consistently after receiving news about my son's disappearance, I hope Allah is protecting him right now.

"I find solace in prayers, accepting whatever Allah decrees. Regardless of the outcome, I surrender completely to Allah," she said when met today.

Zaiton said she would keep visiting the Sedim Recreational Park everyday to keep receiving updates about the search and rescue (SAR) operations to locate her son.

Meanwhile, Kulim Hi-Tech Fire and Rescue Department chief Azmir Hassan confirmed that the SAR operations have now entered its fourth day at 9.53am today.

Azmir said the SAR operation covers an estimated 1.5km radius around the river, involving several agencies and local residents.

"We have now obtained approval to use aircrafts in the SAR mission. At 12.48pm, the operation was temporarily suspended due to heavy rain in the area, but resumed once the rain subsided," he added.

On Saturday, it was reported Hafiz went missing on Friday, triggering a SAR operation after the discovery of a Proton Saga at the site believed to belong to him.
