Man finds King Cobra, python in chicken coop, but fowl safe because Cobra eats python

SEREMBAN: A man experienced a double shock last night when he not only discovered two large snakes in his chicken coop, but that one was more interested in consuming the other, rather than his frightened fowl.

The villager in Kampung Gadong Jaya, Labu, here was at first startled to find what he thought was one giant snake among his petrified chicken. But upon closer inspection, he realised that he was seeing two snakes – a King Cobra measuring 2.5 metres, in the process of swallowing a struggling python.

None of his chickens was missing.

Seremban Civil Defence Force (APM) operation head Private V Yogeswaran said in the 8.40pm incident, the homeowner had rushed to check on his chicken coop after hearing a loud noise coming from the area.

"He found what looked like one rather large snake on the floor. But when he took a closer look, he was shocked to find a King Cobra swallowing a python,” said Yogeswaran

The man called the APM for help, and a team which arrived on the scene took five minutes to catch the King Cobra, which weighed about eight kilograms.

"We have sent the reptile to the Wildlife and National Parks Department," he said.
