Clash of king cobras at Alor Gajah temple spark emergency response

ALOR GAJAH: A caretaker of a temple along Rembia Street in Lendu was shocked when two king cobras made an unexpected appearance at the place of worship last night.

However, the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) was swift to intervene following a distress call from the concerned caretaker.

Alor Gajah Civil Defence Office's operations, disaster, and logistics officer Lieutenant (PA) Abdul Hadi Baharom said the team received an emergency call at 8.08pm, and four members, led by Lance Corporal (PA) Nuratika Zulkepli, were rushed to the scene.

Upon their arrival, a startling scene unfolded: a large king cobra was found in the midst of swallowing a smaller snake of the same species.

Employing expertise and snake tongs, the APM team managed to safely capture the snakes.

The larger king cobra, estimated to be four to six metres long and weighing three to five kilograms, regurgitated the smaller snake during the process.

The APM members securely contained the king cobras and transported them back to the Alor Gajah APM Office for further measures and handling.
