Bomb hoax at George Town hotel rattles nerves

GEORGE TOWN: A bomb hoax at a city hotel here last night frayed the nerves of guests and the authorities.

Northeast district police chief Mior Farid Alatrash Wahid said an unidentified man called in at 10pm to claim that he had planted a bomb at a downtown hotel at Jalan Magazine here.

Mior said the man, who alleged to have ties to terrorists, claimed to have placed the bomb in the hotel lobby.

"A bomb disposal unit was dispatched to the scene.

"The unit combed the hotel lobby, the ground floor and upper floors, but found no suspicious package," he said.

Mior said an investigation on the incident and a hunt for the hoaxer is ongoing.
