Sitiawan school receives hoax bomb threat

MANJUNG: A school in Sitiawan received a hoax bomb threat via email today.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohamed Nordin Abdullah said police were alerted by the school's principal at 2pm today.

Mohamed Nordin said the 48-year-old principal stated that the school had received an email on the bomb threat at 11.20am.

"The principal also informed the police that the school management received the same threat from an unknown individual via email on Tuesday at 11.57am.

"The email is more of a criminal threat by stating that an explosive device has been planted in the school. We are still investigating the case," he said.

He added that police urged the public to refrain from speculating on the case and those with information are urged to contact Investigating Officer Inspector Suhailah Sahabat at 016-584 5480 to assist in investigations.

On Monday, an international school in Meru, Ipoh received a bomb threat via email, said Perak police chief Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri. Police were informed of the incident by the school management at about 10.10am.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said 44 reports were received as of 8am today, involving government, private and international schools.
