PKR urges Pas-DAP to put aside feud and face BN together

SHAH ALAM: PKR has called for its allies Pas and DAP to put aside their individual differences and unite to face Barisan Nasional in the next general election.

PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Azmin Ali said now is not the time for opposition parties to go against each other.

In response to a statement by Pas' newly-appointed spiritual leader Hashim Jasin, who said Pas would contest where DAP contests, Azmin said priorities should be set straight if the opposition wants to successfully take on BN in GE14.

"This is not the time for any party to punish another party; what is important now is that we should put our priorities in order.

"Unless if we want to see all wrongdoings that are happening now continue, then we shall do nothing.

"But, if we want to realise the setup of a clean and fair (federal) government, then we must put aside all individual and party interests, and work together to form an effective coalition to face Barisan Nasional," he told reporters at Dataran Muzium, here, today.

Azmin, who is Selangor Menteri Besar, said the formation of a strong coalition can only happen when all opposition parties, both inside and outside of Pakatan Harapan, are ready to sit together and work towards it.

Azmin said he believed that both Pas and DAP are smart enough to understand this and would eventually come together again, but hoped that it can happen soon enough to prepare for the election.

Last week, Hashim had said that Pas was no longer bound to an agreement under Pakatan Rakyat as it had severed ties with DAP, thus Pas was free to contest against DAP.

He was also quoted as saying that "if it turns into a three-cornered fight, then so be it.”
