Police: Main suspect in RTD officer murder case still in Terengganu

KUALA TERENGGANU: Police believe the main suspect who murdered a 34-year-old Road Transport Department officer near Kompleks Seri Iman, here yesterday, will be arrested soon.

State Criminal Investigations Department chief Assistant Commissioner Wan Abdul Aziz Wan Hamzah said initial investigation showed that the 29-year-old carpenter is still hiding somewhere in the state.

He said police believed the suspect was using his Honda EX5 motorcycle that was earlier parked at his friend's house in Kampung Buloh Gading.

Abdul Aziz said police have gone to his relatives' homes, mounted numerous roadblocks and cordoned off possible escape routes in their effort to detain the suspect.

"We believe he is hiding somewhere in the city to avoid arrest," he told reporters at his office today.

"We hope those with information to contact the nearest police station to assist our investigation," he added.

On Sunday, RTD officer Mohd Shukri Husin, 34, was allegedlly stabbed by the suspect following a heated argument at the carpark of Kompleks Sri Iman.

The victim and his family members had driven from Kota Baru to the District Religious Department to verify the main suspect's marital status.

After finding out that he was married, the suspect and the victim were engaged in a heated argument at the carpark.

The quarrel later became more heated with the suspect suddenly pulling out a knife and started stabbing the officer.

Mohd Shukri, who sustained six stab wounds from the attack, died on the spot.
