PM fulfils promise to Chinese community with construction of JB school, says MCA

JOHOR BARU: An approval letter for the construction of the third Foon Yew Independent High School here was today handed to the Foon Yew High School Management Committee, along with a cheque of RM1 million.

The cheque from the MCA was handed to Foon Yew High School Management Committee chairman Tong Sing Chuan by MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai.

In his speech during the handing over ceremony, Liow said that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has fulfilled the promise he made to the Chinese community in 2013 prior to the general election.

"A Chinese education will enable one to excel in a global economy," Liow said at a press conference.

Meanwhile, Liow's deputy, Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong, attributed the delay in acquiring the approval letter for the school’s construction to a change in the heads of the education department.

He said this when addressing the crowd at the UM Land Sales Gallery in Bandar Seri Alam today.

The Johor Baru Tiong Hua Association also contributed RM500,000 to the building of the new campus.

The Foon Yew Independent High School has a 103-year history. Its main campus in Stulang Laut and another branch in Kulai have nearly 11,000 students.
