Bukit Jambul escalator tragedy: Girl still in critical condition

GEORGE TOWN: A three-year-old girl, who fell from an escalator at the Kompleks Bukit Jambul on Sunday, is still in critical condition.

Penang Hospital director Datuk Dr Norsidah Ismail said the girl has undergone a CT scan today, Harian Metro reported.

"She is still in critical condition, although she is showing positive signs.

"The girl is still undergoing treatment and has been placed in the paediatric intensive care unit. We are monitoring her condition throughout," she said.

In the 6.30pm incident, the toddler, who was seated on the shoulders of her father, fell off the first floor while on the escalator.

It is understood that her father had bent down to pull help his son, whose hand had become trapped at the escalator.

In his panic, his daughter somehow slipped off his shoulder and fell down.

The incident was captured on the mall's CCTV. The video later went viral.
