2017 Budget: Anchored on 5 core principles

KUALA LUMPUR: The formulation of the 2017 Budget was anchored on five government principles and philosophies, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

He said the first principle was that the government prioritised national integration in forming a nation state, adding that “our diversity is an essential asset in the past, present and future”.

The government’s priority, he said, was also to preserve the country’s sovereignty and uphold the Federal Constitution and laws, as well as national security.

The third principle, he said, was to have a government that is cohesive, stable and works as a strong team while the fourth principle was to work hard with a clear direction and systematic planning as well as the holistic, efficient and structured implementation of plans.

“We uphold the Rukun Negara and the spirit of Wasatiyyah (the universal Islamic philosophy and principle),” Najib said of the fifth principle
