KUALA LUMPUR: Fixed line broadband service providers will offer services at a higher speed for the same price effective January 2017.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak in delivering is Budget 2017 speech said a subscriber of five megabytes per second package at RM149, for example, will enjoy a package with twice the speed (i.e. 10 megabytes per second).
He also said the Government will launch an initiative for Ethernet broadband services in public universities to be increased to a maximum 100 gigabytes per second.
The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) will provide RM1 billion to ensure the coverage and quality of broadband nationwide reaches up to 20 megabytes per second, he said while presenting Budget 2017 today.
