2017 Budget reflects government's bid to improve Malaysians' quality of life, says Works Minister

KUCHING: The 2017 Budget reflects the government’s commitment to enhance the people’s quality of life, despite the challenges posed by global economic uncertainties.

Works Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said the Budget also took into consideration the interest of Malaysians from all walks of life, as the government moves towards transforming the country into a high-income nation.

“For instance, the prime minister (Datuk Seri Najib Razak) has approved a RM29 million allocation to upgrade drainage systems and construct overhead motorcycle ramps at the Federal Highway.

“This is proof that the country’s leadership listens to the woes affecting the people from all levels of the community, including motorcyclists.

“The RM10 billion set aside to ease cost of living, including cooking gas subsidies; toll charges; and public transport will also help to improve the livelihood of the people,” Fadillah said in a statement today.

He said the ministry will continue to give emphasis on the ongoing construction of the Pan Borneo Highway project, which will be a game changer for the economic landscape in Sabah and Sarawak.
