Khairy questions walkout, says Opposition has ample time to complain 2017 Budget

SUNGAI PETANI: Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin has described the opposition's walkout protest during the tabling of 2017 Budget by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak yesterday as unprofessional.

This, he said is because opposition lawmakers are aware that they will have two weeks of opportunity to express dissatisfaction over the content of the budget.

Khairy, who is also the Youth and Sports Minister said the opposition should have acted professionally while in the Dewan Rakyat and allowed Najib to continue with his budget speech yesterday.

"It was very disappointing. The action was unprofessional, although they are free to act that way.

"I believe we should exhibit a professional attitude during the tabling of budget, and (after all) as the opposition, they will have the opportunity to debate the matter for two weeks.

"Yesterday was the prime minister and finance minister's chance to present the budget. If they (opposition) are not satisfied, they can state them during the debate," he said, after officiating Kedah state-level Fit Malaysia programme at Institut Pendidikan Guru of Sultan Abdul Halim Campus here this morning.

It was reported that the tabling of the budget was disrupted when opposition lawmakers suddenly stood up to interrupt Najib’s speech.

The ruckus began after the PM took a swipe at the opposition's allegations that the 2017 Budget was of no substance and the government had insufficient funds.

Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia tried to restore order but some of the MPs refused to back down, resulting in Pandikar ordering them out of the Dewan Rakyat.
