Injured hiker on Gunung Irau, rescued by Fire and Rescue dept personnel training on the mountain

CAMERON HIGHLANDS: A group of personnel from the state’s Fire and Rescue Department rush to the aid of an injured hiker on Gunung Irau while out training in the field.

The personnel were on a training trip on the mountain when they were alerted by the public about the incident.

Perak Special Tactical Operation Rescue Malaysia (Storm) chief Mohd Hisyam Zakariah said the personnel were on their way down the mountain yesterday when they were informed by the public about a distress call made by another group of hikers there.

“Upon arriving at the scene, the officers found a 21-year-old woman down on the ground. She was not able to walk. The personnel from Storm with the assistance of 12 firemen and four members of the public managed to ferry the victim on a stretcher for 1.4km out of the mountain,” he said.

Hisyam added that the team took four hours to complete the rescue mission due to the challenging terrains and rain.

The woman injured her back when she fell during the 4pm incident. She was with a group of 30 hikers. She was then sent to Hospital Sultanah Hajjah Kalsom in Tanah Rata for treatment.

The training trip, organised by the state’s Fire and Rescue Department also included units from Storm and Multi-Skill Team (MUST).
