Hundreds pay their last respect to Neeramala

BAHAU: Grief, disbelief and shock hung heavy in the air as hundreds bid farewell to C Neeramala for the very last time. Families and friends came to pay their last respect at the Sivalogam crematorium.

For C Logeswari, the passing of her older sister was heart-breaking. The family had just lost their grandmother who died of old age last month.

“Our family was already grieving for our late grandmother and we did not expect Neeramala to follow suit. There will be no Deepavali celebrations for us this year,” Logeswari, 22, told the New Straits Times yesterday.

The ceremony, which started at noon, lasted for three hours. Family members said they will be collecting Neeramala’s ashes tomorrow before heading out to sea from Port Dickson, to scatter her ashes.

Neeramala was one of the six fire victims who died at the Sultanah Aminah Hospital in Johor Baru on Tuesday.

Neeramala was working as a factory operator in Singapore and stayed together with Logeswari in a rented house in Taman Tampoi Utama, Johor. She fainted on Monday and neighbours promptly sent her to the Sultanah Aminah Hospital where she was subsequently put on life support for epileptic attacks.
