KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak called for unity this Deepavali through a video he posted on Facebook tonight.
Najib said, when he was younger, he used to follow his parents to visit fellow friends celebrating Deepavali.
“I remember Deepavali being celebrated with an array of food such as tosai, capati and muruku,” he said.
In his speech, he said the spirit of Deepavali is based on the battle of light against darkness.
“Deepavali is about light overcoming darkness and it is with this spirit we respect all festivals. In Malaysia, our festivals unite the people and together we are Malaysians,” he said.
He ended the video wishing all Hindus in Malaysia a very happy Deepavali.
