More than 400 patients relocated following Sultanah Aminah Hospital fire

JOHOR BARU: More than 400 patients have been relocated to several government hospitals in the city and neighbouring districts following the fire that damaged parts of Sultanah Aminah Hospital (HSA) on Tuesday.

Deputy Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Hilmi Yahaya said, besides the Sultan Ismail Hospital and Permai Hospital here, patients were also transferred to hospitals in Kluang, Segamat and Mersing.

"Even though the patients have been transferred, any surgical procedures that they need would be conducted by doctors and nurses from HSA using the equipment and facilities at the other hospitals," said Dr Hilmi.

Yesterday, Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr S Subramaniam announced that the west wing of HSA where the intensive care unit is located would be closed so that a thorough check on the building can be conducted.

Dr Hilmi said all the patients have already been transferred when the closure order was issued.

"All the patients were transferred on the day of the incident," said Dr Hilmi.

He was speaking to the media after visiting HSA where he was briefed by officials from the hospital. Also present was Johor Health Director Dr Rooshaimi Merican A Rahim Merican.
