Service disruptions still affecting KTM north-south line following train derailment

KUALA LUMPUR: Train services along the KTM north-south line are still experiencing disruptions following the cargo train derailment along Batu Gajah earlier today.

KTM Bhd, in its latest statement at 6pm, said its Electric Train Service (ETS) commuters passing through the affected Kampar-Ipoh stations are still being transferred via shuttle buses provided.

"After they are transferred by bus through the affected stations, they will continue their journey to their destinations via train.

"A total of 36 buses have been provided by KTM to transfer affected commuters from one station to another."

The company however noted that the buses would probably be delayed as traffic was building up following hordes of people travelling along the roads at the start of the long weekend.

"Commuters who no longer wish to continue their journey may have their tickets refunded at our counters.

"Efforts to move the carriages involved in the incident are being done at the moment and updates will be provided regularly."

KTM Bhd said it apologises for any convenience caused, the statement said, and concerned commuters can to call their hotline at 03-22671200 or visit their website for more information.

A total 25 carriages and two locomotives were thrown off track as a cargo train derailed along Kampung Bakap, Batu Gajah early this morning.

The incident took place about a kilometre away from the KTM Batu Gajah station.

Although no fatalities were reported, the incident disrupted KTM train services, delaying the journeys of thousands of commuters, who had pinned their hopes on returning to their hometowns following the long Deepavali weekend.
