Pas warns of closing door to reconciliation with Pakatan Harapan

KUCHING: Pas has warned former allies in Pakatan Harapan that it may close the window of opportunity for reconciliation, thus crushing the opposition pact’s hopes for a stronger alliance.

Its president, Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang, said Pas is still open to discussion, but cautioned other opposition parties against reducing Pas to a mere khadam (servant).

“For the longest time, we have had our door open for discussion. It is still open. The opportunity for reconciliation is not yet lost.

“Having that said, do not force us to close it. This is my reminder,” he told reporters during Sarawak Pas’ 20th anniversary celebrations at its headquarters here last night.

Present were Pas deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man and state party commissioner Jofri Jaraiee.

Hadi was asked to comment on whether Pas is keen to be included in the greater opposition pact as hoped for by Pakatan Harapan leaders.

“We do not want Pas to be the khadam of other (opposition) parties. They have to understand this.

“If you don’t have (enough) branches and refuse to do your (share of the) work, please don’t expect us to finish the job for you,” said Hadi, without naming any parties.
