Hadi told to apologise to Selangor sultan

ALOR STAR: Kedah PKR Youth wants Pas president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang to apologise to the sultan of Selangor for making "irresponsible and seditious remarks".

"His words in the 'Minda Presiden' column insinuate the rulers have been silent in upholding the syariah institution and Islam. This is a shallow statement," said the wing's chief, Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari.

"If YB Tan Sri Hadi wished to refer to the recent case of Nik Elin (Nik Elin Zurina Nik Abdul Rashid), he should have been aware that the National Council of Islamic Religious Affairs (MKI) is scrutinising the issue based on the sultan of Selangor's wisdom and the Federal Constitution.

"This issue has also been explained in detail on Feb 27, 2024 by the deputy minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) YB Senator Dr Zulkifli Hasan in a verbal reply to YB Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan (in Parliament), but YB Tan Sri Hadi was absent from the session."

Dr Taufiq added that PKR Youth would continue to protect the institution of Malay rulers from parties who are out to score political mileage.

Sultan Sharafuddin of Selangor, who is also MKI chairman, had yesterday expressed displeasure with the Pas president over his statement titled 'The Stature of Islam Must Be Defended' on Feb 20 on the pas.org.my news portal.
