No green light for Red Shirts rally yet on Saturday

KUALA LUMPUR: The Red Shirts fraction have yet to receive the green light from the police to hold a rally at Dataran Merdeka on Saturday.

Dang Wangi police chief Assistant Commissioner Zainol Samah said although Red Shirt leader Datuk Jamal Yunos had submitted their application to hold the rally, the application was incomplete as the latter did not receive approval from the land owner.

“They wanted to hold it (rally) at the Dataran Merdeka but there is an event at the square on Saturday so they did not receive any approval, as under the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012.

“We have advised them to hold it at other venues such as Padang Merbok or Sultan Sulaiman field but so far, they have not come back to us,” he said when contacted.

Jamal had announced that the Red Shirts will hold a large-scale assembly at Dataran Merdeka on Saturday to express their dissatisfaction against Bersih.

About 300,000 participants are expected to attend the rally.
