Zahid spurs on local animation industry at premiere of Upin & Ipin Jeng Jeng Jeng

PETALING JAYA: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has urged the local animation industry to produce more films and TV series of international calibre.

Zahid, who was officiating the gala premier of the animated Upin & Ipin Jeng Jeng Jeng movie here praised the achievement of Upin & Ipin, as it has been well received by international viewers.

"The Upin & Ipin series is (even) shown on Disney Channel," he pointed out.

Zahid said he hopes that by 2050, more locally-produced animated films will be recognised globally

"Last year, the animation sector saw positive growth, reaching a value of RM101 million internationally and RM127 million locally," he said.

Zahid attended the premier with his wife, Datin Seri Hamidah Khamis, his two children and nine of his grandchildren.

Also present were Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh, and Tourism and Culture Deputy Minister Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin.
