PM Najib announces new MAS destinations to China

BEIJING, China: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak today launched the Malaysia Tourism Pavilion on Alitrip, a travel portal under the massive Alibaba Group of Jack Ma, who was also present.

At the launch, he also announced that 8 new destinations and 11 new routes will be introduced by Malaysia Airlines beginning January 2017, translating into 35 additional frequencies between Malaysia and China.

Currently on a six-day official visit to China with a large delegation of government officials and the corporate sector, Najib said the Kuala Lumpur Hong Kong service will be upgraded to a widebody A330 from January 2017 and the introduction of the Kuala Lumpur – Haikou service.

“The second daily Shanghai Pudong as well as new connections to Nanjing, Haikou, Wuhan and Fuzhou will follow suit in the first half of 2017. Subject to slot availability, new services to Chengdu and Chongqing will be introduced from Kuala Lumpur,” he added.

Najib said Malaysia Airlines will begin to gradually add services from cities such as Penang and Kota Kinabalu to cities across China such as Shanghai Pudong and Shenzhen.

“All of these new routes will hopefully spur even more visitors from China to choose Malaysia as their preferred destination; a choice that is made even simpler with the convenience of the Malaysia Pavilion on alitrip.com,” he said.
