Police bust "Macau Scam' with arrest of 43 Chinese nationals in KL

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have busted another 'Macau Scam' syndicate with the arrest of 44 people, including six women, at two locations in KL this afternoon.

Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department director Datuk Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani said the suspects, totaling 43 Chinese nationals and one Malaysian man, were picked up from an apartment in Mont Kiara and a house in Taman OUG.

“Our counterparts in China had shared their intelligence on the syndicate’s activities. All victims were from the mainland and members of a supermarket chain in China.

“The victims would receive a call from the suspects, saying that they have yet to receive payment for goods or services used by the victims.

“Then the suspects would accuse the victims of using fake identities, or using a fake card before threatening to report the case to police, central bank or court if the victims did not pay the required amount,” he said.

So far, no Malaysians have fallen prey to such scams.

He said the documentation of the suspects was underway with help from Chinese police.
