Glue sniffing addict attacks relatives, three seriously injured

LAWAS: A family of three sustained serious injuries after a relative, believed to be under the influence of alcohol and glue vapors, ran amok at their home in Kampung Belangsat, near Limbang, today.

In the 12.40pm incident, the victims, aged between 20 and 50, were in the living room when the 22-year-old suspect suddenly rushed into the house with a parang and started attacking them.

A 48-year-old man, believed to be the suspect's uncle, was seriously injured in the attack. The other two victims sustained injuries to their necks and other parts of the bodies.

The suspect ran off into a nearby jungle after the victims ran outside of the house and shouted for help.

A Lawas district police spokesman when contacted confirmed on the incident.

He said all the victims were rushed to the Lawas Hospital for treatment.

"One of the victims suffered serious deep cuts," the spokesman said.

He said initial checks showed that the suspect was angry over repeated nagging from his relatives over his glue-sniffing addiction.

Meanwhile, Bernama reported that police have arrested the suspect at 2.15pm, while hiding in the jungle.

"He has been detained and brought to the Lawas police station. We will file a remand application tomorrow for further investigation," Lawas police chief Deputy Superintendent Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad was quoted as saying.

He added that the suspect is being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code, which provides for a maximum 20 years imprisonment, caning and a fine on conviction.
