Man seriously injured in brutal parang attack by masked assailants

PASIR PUTEH: A 55-year-old man suffered serious injuries after he was attacked by two masked men armed with parang here last night.

District police chief, Superintendent Zaizul Rizal Zakaria said the incident happened at Kampung Wakaf Berangan here.

He said police received a report on the incident at 10.13pm and immediately sent a team to the scene.

"The report stated that the 55-year-old victim and his friend were having a drink at a coffee shop Kampung Wakaf Berangan when two masked men, each armed with parang, suddenly attacked him.

"The suspects repeatedly slashed the victim across the body and wrists with the parang.

"The two later escaped from the scene in a Proton Saga," he said in a statement.

Zaizul said the victim was sent to Tengku Anis Hospital here before being transferred to Universiti Sains Malaysia Hospital (HUSM) in Kubang Kerian.

"The victim was reported to be in serious condition at HUSM. Police are investigating the motive behind the attack," he said.

He added the case was being investigated under Section 326 of Penal Code.
