Three-hour rainfall triggers Taiping flash floods

TAIPING: A three-hour rainfall triggered flash floods in several areas in the district this afternoon.

The 1pm flash floods hit several areas including Taman Tupai Mas, Taman Seri Kota and St George's Institution.

Several places were inundated by one-metre in depth flood waters.

Taiping Fire and Rescue Department officer Hasna Rashid said about 3,000 residents were affected.

In Taman Seri Kota, eight firemen were tasked with monitoring the situation.

"The team rescued and brought a paralysed victim to higher ground," he said, adding that the rain stopped about 4.30pm and the floods gradually subsided an hour later.
