Roadblocks mounted on stretches headed to KL city centre

KUALA LUMPUR: Several roadblocks have been set up by police at roads leading to the city centre this morning.

Police have diverted traffic off the New Pantai Expressway at the Angkasapuri in Jalan Pantai Baru. The move saw Jalan Bangsar, usually notorious for heavy traffic even on a Saturday morning, with hardly any vehicles along the stretch.

Roads around Dataran Merdeka, the venue for the Bersih rally, have also been closed to traffic, leading to traffic build up on roads elswhere heading to the venue.

In anticipation of the rally a total of 58 roads within 10 areas in the city centre have been closed off to vehicular traffic by the police.

The roads and areas designated as no-entry zones to vehicles are:

• Dataran Maybank, Bangsar

• Little India, Brickfields,

• Masjid Negara

• Muzium Negara

• Sogo • Dataran Merdeka

• Parliament

• Bank Negara

• Jalan Pudu

• PWTC

• Chow Kit

The road closures began at 7am, and are expected to last until the evening. While train services will continue as usual, taxi services into the city centre will most likely be unavailable, given the numerous road closures and traffic diversions.
