(Football) Darren Lok to lead charge against Cambodia at AFF Cup tomorrow

YANGON: England-born Darren Lok will lead Malaysia's attack, along with Ahmad Hazwan Bakri, in tomorrow's AFF Cup Group B match against Cambodia at Thuwunna Stadium here.

Lok, who was granted Malaysian citizenship in Sept, has vowed to make an impression and possibly score his first goal for Malaysia in the match.

The 26-year-old's inclusion was initially questioned by critics, as he had only played two matches for Johor in the recent Premier League season.

However, his fine performance in the 2-1 win over Papua New Guinea recently silenced his critics.

"I am a striker and my job is to score goals.

"Hazwan and I are improving after each training session since we arrived here and hopefully, we can make the difference tomorrow," said Darren after going through the training drills today.

Meanwhile, goalkeeper coach Kris Yong said Khairul Fahmi Che Mat will start between the posts for Malaysia.

“He is quick off his line when required and is very determined in tight areas, and also very good in handling long-range shots.

“However, my other keepers, Khairul Azhan Khalid and Hafizul Hakim Khairul Nizam Jothy, are equally good. I have reminded the keepers that there is no preferred No 1 in the team.

"All three are good enough to start, but Khairul Fahmi is my pick for tomorrow's match,” said Yong.
