Cops release 10 nabbed over Bersih 5, Red Shirts rallies

KUALA LUMPUR: The police today released 10 people who were arrested since last Friday over the Bersih 5 and Red Shirts illegal rallies held yesterday.

They are Bersih committee member Mandeep Singh Karpall Singh, Ronnie Liu Tian Khiew and Wong Chee Wai alias Jimmy Wong of the DAP, Parti Sosialis Malaysia committee member S. Arutchelvam.

Student activists Muhamad Luqman Nul Haqim Zul Razali, Anis Syafiqah Md Yusof, Lee Khai Meng and Safwan Anang alias Talib and Red Shirts activists Hairol Nizam Md Nor and Razali Zakaria.

Kuala Lumpur CID chief SAC Rusdi Mohd Isa, when contacted, confirmed their release but declined to elaborate.

"All those arrested on Nov 18 have been released except Bersih chairman Maria Chin Abdullah," he said.

About 20 leaders and activists from both Bersih and Red Shirts movement have been detained since Friday in connection with the gathering.

Among those still in police custody were Red Shirts leader Datuk Seri Jamal Mohd Yunos, Bersih 2.0 chairman Maria Chin Abdullah, Batu MP Tian Chua, activist Hishammuddin Rais, Seremban MP Anthony Loke Siew Fook, Ampang MP Zuraida Kamaruddin, activist Fahmi Reza and Pasir Pinji assemblyman Howard Lee Chuan How, Umno Youth exco member Datuk Armand Azha Abu Hanifa and Red Shirts' leader Ariffin Abu Bakar@Ipin Keramat. - BERNAMA
