No notice received by cops for Bersih assembly

KUALA LUMPUR: The police have yet to receive any notification from the Coalition for Clean and Fair Elections (Bersih) to hold an assembly.

City police chief Datuk Allaudeen Abdul Majid said in a statement that conducting an assembly without notification is an offence under Section 9 (5) of the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012.

"Today, police were alerted to a viral poster on social media regarding Bersih organising a 'Reformasi 100 peratus' assembly, calling on the public to gather at Tugu Negara and then march to Parliament.

"Up to now, police have not received any notification of assembly under Section 9(1) of the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012 from any party wishing to hold the assembly."

The police have urged the public not to participate in any assembly that violates the provisions of the law.

Yesterday, in a post on X, Bersih announced its plan to march towards Parliament from Tugu Negara on Tuesday to demand legislative reforms.

Bersih said this marked its first 'Reformasi 100 peratus' (100 per cent reform) campaign.

Bersih chairman Muhammad Faisal Abdul Aziz said the campaign would address issues related to general elections and corruption, including reforms to the Election Offences Act.
