Khairy rouses youth to help correct misconceptions about Islam

KUALA LUMPUR: Simply asserting that ‘Islam is a religion of peace’ is not enough to correct general phobic misconceptions about it.

Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said it is important for Muslims - the youth, in particular – to demonstrate and prove that Islam is a force for good.

"It is not enough to say that Islam is a peaceful religion. We need to demonstrate it.

"We need young people to speak up. Only you know what your peers want.

"Stand with us, the older generation, in eliminating the root causes of radicalisation once and for all," he said in his special address at the 2016 Kuala Lumpur International Youth Discourse today.

He called upon the youth to organise programmes that propagate the message of ‘wasatiyyah’ or moderation, and urged young people to develop a mindset that would allow them to succeed in their future careers.
