Gang of 5 arrested, breakthrough for police in 8 home burglary cases

ALOR STAR: Police believe they are able to solve more than eight house burglary cases in the Kuala Muda district since 2012, following the arrest of a gang of five.

The five were taken into custody after a 20 minutes high-speed chase in Sungai Petani yesterday morning.

Kedah police chief Datuk Asri Yusoff said initial investigation showed one of the suspects had matching fingerprints with eight house break-in cases in Kuala Muda district.

“Initial investigation showed that the five, all from Sungai Petani, were actively involved in criminal activities since 2012,” he told reporters in press conference earlier today.

Asri said police have obtained a four-day remand order against the suspects.

He added that one of them has a list of 17 previous convictions while another has a list of seven criminal convictions.

“Two suspects including the one who was shot on the leg for trying to attack policemen, are being warded at the Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital and they are reported to be in stable condition,” he said.

It was reported yesterday that police had crippled a house break-in gang with the arrest of the men following a dramatic high-speed chase from Maybank Taman Ria branch.

The suspects were detained when their Proton Waja crashed the car into a Tenaga Nasional Bhd pole behind SMK Dato Bijaya Setia.

One of the four suspects was shot on the leg when he jumped out the car and tried to attack the policemen.

Three hours after the incident, police detained the fifth suspect at Taman Seri Angsana.
