KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister and Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Razak presented the Puteri Umno Ikon Wanita Muda 2016 awards to five recipients at the movement's assembly today.
Accompanying Najib to present the awards was his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor.
The recipients were Fatin Nurfatehah Mat Salleh, 25, for Sports category, Nurul Elfira Loy Ahmad Sabri, 22, (Arts category), Norerama D. Pagukuman, 28, (Research and Innovation), Sofia Ahmad, 32, (Entrepreneurship) and Siti Bainun Razali, 24, (Special Award Puteri Umno).
Nurul Elfira, an actress and a Uniqlo brand ambassador said that young women could play a role in encouraging their contemporaries to be successful in their respective field.
"As a young person too, we are their closest medium.
"Every morning, they open the social media and we can reach out to them on this platform," she said.
Siti Bainun, who teaches at classes for orphans and led an initiative to give free petrol, urged young women to use their time and expertise to give back to society.
