NSC sweeps 10 districts in Tawau, detains 90 illegal foreigners

TAWAU: An integrated operation led by state National Security Council (NSC) here saw 90 immigrants detained for not possessing valid documents.

The 90 caught were out of 260 people screened.

NSC said in a statement here today, the operation held at 10 areas in the district covered workers’ quarters, plantations, construction sites and squatter areas.

The strenuous operations started at 11.30pm on Monday and ended only at 9.30pm on Tuesday here, yesterday.

Some 120 personnel from related agencies took part in the stint.

“The operation is considered a success as most of those who were checked at that time have valid documents and workers’ permit, even though these places were known to be lairs for illegals,” said NSC state director Datuk Rodzi Md Saad.

Those remanded will be held at the district’s temporary detention centre pending investigations.
