Search resumes for missing worker in MidValley bridge collapse

KUALA LUMPUR: The search and rescue mission has resumed to locate a missing construction worker, believed to have been trapped in the rubble following the collapse of a pedestrian bridge at KL Eco City near Mid Valley Megamall yesterday.

City Fire and Rescue Department acting deputy director Samsol Maarif Saibani said 60 rescuers were deployed including its Special Tactical Operation Rescue Malaysia (Storm) from Selangor and the city centre.

As of 5.51am, the rescuers have been divided into three groups which will scour three sectors - A, B and C.

Each group is responsible for sifting through four pillars of debris to locate the victim.

In total, four victims have been sent to the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC).

The four rescued victims were Bangladeshi and Vietnamese, as well as a Sabahan.

Meanwhile, the authorities confirmed that one construction worker died in the tragedy.

The worker is believed to have drowned in the river below after falling when the structure gave way.

The under-construction pedestrian bridge reportedly gave way at 3.30pm yesterday.

It was reported that the workers were having their lunch break and were seated under the bridge when the tragedy occurred.
