Bus crash at Ipoh Toll Plaza, driver to be called to have statement recorded

IPOH: Police will take the statement from the bus driver who rammed into the toll booth divider at the Ipoh (South) Toll Plaza yesterday.

“Yes, we will call him to obtain his statement on the incident,” said Ipoh police chief Assistant Commissioner Sum Chang Keong when contacted today.

He added police have yet to fix a specific date but he confirmed that the driver would be called in few days’ time.

The bus driver Razman Yaakob, 28, claimed that he realised the brakes were not working about 100m from the toll plaza.

Meanwhile, state Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department chief Superintendent Wan Jamil Wan Chik said the accident which occurred at about 5pm was caused by malfunctioning brakes.

He said the bus had hit a lorry, which was queuing at the toll gate, before crashing into the toll booth divider.

It was reported yesterday that the bus ferrying 33 pupils and four teachers of SRJK(C) Jit Sin, Bukit Mertajam, was on its way back from a school trip to Malacca and Cameron Highlands.

Ten pupils have suffered minor injuries and they were taken to Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital for treatment.
