Won family winning hearts by way of the stomach

KUALA TERENGGANU: The newly opened Mr Crab Shabu Shabu Restaurant in Jalan Sultan Zainal Abidin is here to whet the appetite of all with its fantastic spread of local, Korean and Japanese cuisine a la steamboat-cum-barbecue style, and all at very affordable prices.

This new attraction with its fine dining concept, offers over 20 varieties of seafood as well as a fine feast of sushi, sashimi and kimchi.

One will also find on the menu the quintessential chicken curry on top of a healthy spread of salad.

All it took was a family of five to come together to realise their dream of the establishing the ultimate fusion restaurant.

The brains behind the outlet, Alan Won Yen Nien, 33, who was working in logistics, left his job after eight years with a leading hotel in Pulau Redang.

“I am a gourmet lover and I’m game to try any cuisine. I felt it was time to venture out on my own and create something special for the people of Terengganu, a classy and genuine seafood outlet,” said Won.

“As you can see, our stock is fresh from the sea, which people really appreciate. They are getting value for their money here,” said Won.

The all-you-can-eat buffet is priced at RM37.90 for adults, RM32.90 for senior citizens and just RM9.90 for children.

The restaurant also serves special a la carte fare that includes lobsters, crabs, oysters and prawns at fixed prices.

Won believes in repeat customers, hence, one of the restaurant’s selling point is to keep prices affordable especially for families looking to enjoy a fine dinner together.

The eldest of three siblings, Won has the support and help of his two younger brothers, Michael Won Yen Chyee, 32, who left his job in the transportation field to become a chef and Cash Wen, 29, who currently runs a hair styling studio in town.

Won’s other business partners are none other than his father Won Su Choi, 62, a retired forest manager, and mother Leong Soi Lin, 60, who operates a beauty therapy centre.

Won said it was the synergy of all in the family who helped establish the restaurant.
