FIFA Puskas Award: Faiz's 'wonder goal' has more than 1.3 million views to date

KUALA LUMPUR: As of 2pm today, as many as 1,348,827 people have viewed the ‘wonder goal’ scored by Penang Liga Malaysia footballer Mohd Faiz Subri, thus elevating the figures of those who had viewed goals by world stars such as Lionel Messi and Neymar.

Faiz’s goal has been listed as among the top three goals in contention for the Puskas Award organised by FIFA.

The scissor kick by Corintihians Brazilian player Johnath Marlone is in second place, with 885,572 views, followed by Messi’s freekick, which is in third with 879,423 views.

Other contenders for the coveted award are Mario Gaspar (Villareal/Spain), Hlompho Kekana (Mamelodi Sundowns/South Africa), Saul Niguez (Atletico Madrid/Spain), Hal Robson-Kanu (West Bromwich Albion/Wales), Simon Skrabb (Gefle IF/Finland) and Daniuska Rodrigue (Venezuela).

FIFA via its official website www.fifa.com on Nov 19 had shortlisted 10 best goals from the period of Sept 30, 2015 to Sept 2016, for the FIFA Puskas Award.

The three best goals with the highest number of votes will undergo a second voting process. The winner will be announced at the FIFA football awards in Zurich, Switzerland on Jan 9 next year.
