Dr Mahathir makes surprise appearance at DAP convention

SHAH ALAM: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad made a surprise appearance at DAP’s 50th national convention here today, the first time he has done so at the Opposition party’s convention.

The former prime minister sat on stage together with other national DAP leaders, as the conference kicked off this morning.

Other Pakatan Harapan leaders who were present were PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and Parti Amanah Negara president Mohamad Sabu. Also making an appearance was Bersih 2.0 chairman Maria Chin Abdullah.

Speaking in a press conference later, Dr Mahathir admitted that he had been wrong about DAP, stating that DAP was not a Chinese-based party, but a multi-racial party.

“There are non-Chinese who hold high positions in the party, such as the late Karpal Singh who was the national chairman.

“It is an experience,” he said when commenting on his first time at the convention.

Other DAP leaders who were present included DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang, acting national chairman Tan Kok Wai and DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng.
