BUTTERWORTH: Police today detained 28 men who were allegedly involved in a riot here yesterday.
The men are aged between 17 and 51.
Seberang Prai Utara district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Asri Shafie said a report on the riot was lodged yesterday. The men allegedly used parang.
"The incident is believed to have been the result of a provocation in the group.
"A team from the state Criminal Investigations Department arrested 28 men today. They have been remanded in custody for further investigations."
Police are tracking down the other suspects, he added.
"Those with information on the incident should contact the investigating officer, Assistant Superintendent Nasrina Darus, at 04-5762222 (extension 2275) or the nearest police station."
