Air Force ready for flood relief activities

KUALA LUMPUR: The Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) have placed its assets on standby for relief missions, should the year-end flood situation in the country took a turn for the worse, especially in the east coast states.

RMAF chief General Tan Sri Roslan Saad said the air force are ready to mobilise its aircraft when needed.

"We have activated the flood operation, codenamed 'Ops Murni'.

"Our Nuri EC725, Hercules C-130, and A400M are ready to be deployed," he said.

In 2014, heavy rains in December forced more than 150,000 people in Kelantan and Terengganu to flee their homes as torrents of water up to six feet deep swept through the east coast states.

The flood also affected part of Selangor, Pahang and Perak.
