Storm wreaks havoc across JB, one injured

JOHOR BARU: A motorist was injured and 14 houses were damaged in a freak storm that swept through the city last night.

In the 9.30pm incident, heavy downpour, lasting about 30 minutes, also brought with it strong winds that uprooted several trees.

Johor Baru Civil Defence Force (APM) personnel lieutenant Mohd Aziz Jupri said the motorist sustained head injuries when a tree branch fell on his car.

"The injured motorist was rushed by paramedics to the Sultan Ismail Hospital," he said.

Strong winds, he added, also tore the roof off several houses in Bandar Baru Uda. A total of 14 residential homes in the area were damaged in the incident.

Aziz said 25 APM personnel were deployed to the affected areas to help in the rescue and recovery effort.
