Iskandar Malaysia sets sights on becoming Asia's premier GBS hub

ISKANDAR PUTERI: Global Business Services (GBS) will become one of the main economic sectors of Iskandar Malaysia.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said he is confident in what GBS can offer to generate growth in the region.

In fact, he said Iskandar Malaysia, as a whole, is testament to Malaysia’s strong socioeconomic fundamentals and status as a viable investment destination in Asia.

"With the GBS sector, Iskandar Malaysia will continue to be the top destination for foreign investments," he said at the launch ceremony of Iskandar Malaysia's 10th anniversary at EduCity Sports Complex.

Najib said the government will encourage participation in the GBS sector by allowing qualified companies to apply for the Medini Tax Encouragement Package under the GBS Iskandar scheme.

He said the initiative will steer the township of Iskandar Puteri towards becoming the region’s new GBS hub, which is expected to attract RM6.5 billion in investments and create 14,000 jobs by 2020.

GBS is the integration of governance, locations and practices which utilises information and communication technology, financing and accounting, human resources and engineering design and services.
