Zunar files bid to challenge travel ban

KUALA LUMPUR: Cartoonist Zunar today filed a judicial review to challenge a travel ban imposed on him by the Immigration Department.

In his application filed at the High Court here, he named the director-general of the Immigration Department, Home Ministry and the government as respondents.

Zunar, whose real name is Zulkiflee Anwar Haque is challenging the respondents' action barring him from travelling to Singapore to attend a forum.

He is seeking a declaration that the respondents did not have the power to reach the decision and therefore acted beyond its jurisdiction.

In a press conference, Zunar said on Oct 17, he was obstructed by the immigration officers at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) from taking a flight to Singapore to attend a forum.

He was represented by counsel Eric Paulsen.
